Lockheed Martin proves the integration of the Spike NLOS missile into the AH-64E Apache
Lockheed Martin's Precision Strike team successfully fired two Spike NLOS missiles from an AH-64E Apache V6 helicopter on January 26, 2023, at the Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona.
The successful live fire event verifies the integration of the Spike NLOS Long Range Precision Munitions Directed Requirement (LRPM DR) system on the Apache platform and allows it to enter the qualification test.
“The successful integration of Spike NLOS into the Apache platform demonstrates Lockheed Martin's continued commitment to 21st century security solutions that help our customers complete their missions,” said Tom Bargnesi, senior manager of program management for the Precision team. Strike by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control “The system's expansion to additional platforms, along with its mission-focused defense capabilities, ensures it will help the US Army stay ahead in an ever-evolving threat environment.”
The demo featured two Spike NLOS fired from an Apache platform at a stationary target in two separate scenarios. The Spike NLOS system will begin testing to qualify the design for airworthiness release (AWR). Once the AWR is awarded, the system will be fielded on the US Army's Apache Echo Model V6 platforms by September 2024.
Lockheed Martin first partnered with Rafael in 2012 to bring the unique Spike NLOS capabilities to US customers. The missile's long-range and "out of line-of-sight" capabilities offer significant complements to current lethal solutions on Army aviation platforms.
The Spike NLOS is integrated into a variety of land, aviation and marine platforms, providing a stand-off capability to hit distant or geographically hidden targets outside direct line of sight.
