Citation CJ3 Gen2 enters service
Textron Aviation announced last Thursday (8/01) that the Cessna Citation CJ3 Gen2, the new evolution of the Citation CJ3 family, has entered service. The first deliveries were made this week, marking the start of operations after certification by the US civil aviation agency (FAA), granted in October.
While retaining the familiar Garmin G3000 avionics suite and Williams International FJ44-3A engines, the CJ3 Gen2 features significant upgrades, such as standard autothrottle, which automates engine power control, and optionally offers the Enhanced Vision System.
It also includes the Garmin GDL 60 data link, which allows for flight plan transmission, automatic database updates, and aircraft diagnostics.
The cockpit has received an 11.4 cm increase in legroom, enhancing pilot comfort. The CJ3 Gen2's range remains approximately 2,040 nautical miles, with a maximum cruise speed of 416 knots, maintaining the characteristic performance of the Citation family.
FAA certification was granted in October 2025, and the model's development took just over two years since its public presentation. Textron Aviation is already planning the next generation, the CJ3 Gen3, which is expected to incorporate an autoland system and is scheduled to enter service in 2027.

The CJ3 Gen2 was developed from contributions from an advisory board made up of owners, pilots and mechanics. According to Textron, this process influenced adjustments in different areas of the aircraft, from the cockpit to the cabin, resulting in operational and functional updates aligned with the demands of business aviation.
The Citation CJ3 Gen2 cockpit received an additional 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) of legroom for the pilot, facilitating access to and exit from the seat. The aircraft incorporates the latest version of the Garmin G3000, with software and hardware updates.
Key features include:
-Garmin Autothrottle, focused on reducing workload and protecting the flight envelope;
-Touchscreen controllers with an intuitive interface;
GDL 60 system, which allows aircraft connectivity, remote flight plan submission, automatic database updates, and wireless transmission of diagnostic data.
Configurable cabin and operational capacity...The CJ3 Gen2 cabin is fully configurable, with capacity for up to ten occupants, allowing for different arrangements according to the mission profile. The model also now features an external service lavatory, a feature focused on operational practicality on the ground.
Performance and range...The CJ3 Gen2 has a maximum range of 2,040 nautical miles and a maximum payload of 2,135 pounds. According to Textron Aviation, these figures increase mission flexibility, combining runway performance, efficiency, and range compatible with regional and short-haul intercontinental business aviation operations.
