Gulfstream G800: world’s longest-range business jet certified
Gulfstream announced yesterday (16) that the all-new G800 jet, the world’s longest-range business aircraft, has received type certification from the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as well as the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), exceeding even its originally anticipated performance capabilities.
The certifications confirm the aircraft’s enhanced performance, including a range of 8,200 nautical miles at Mach 0.85 long-range cruise — an increase of 200 nautical miles over initial projections. The G800 can also fly 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 km) at high-speed cruise at Mach 0.90 or an impressive 8,000 nautical miles at Mach 0.87. The aircraft’s maximum operating speed has also increased, from Mach 0.925 to Mach 0.935.
In addition, the G800 has been certified with a balanced takeoff distance of 5,812 feet and a landing distance of 3,105 feet — in ISA conditions at sea level — both shorter than previously announced, expanding airport access for customers.
“With the certification of the G800, Gulfstream has once again exceeded expectations, thanks to the expertise and rigor of our flight test, certification and production teams,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “The G800 represents the latest evolution in business aviation as we continue to develop our next-generation fleet and bring industry-leading performance and efficiency to market. With these enhancements, Gulfstream customers will benefit greatly from the flexibility and extended range that the G800 offers.”
The G800 offers unmatched cabin comfort, including the industry’s lowest cabin altitude — 2,840 feet when flying at 41,000 feet, the same as the Gulfstream G700 cabin — 100 percent fresh air, a plasma ionization air purification system and 16 Gulfstream-exclusive panoramic oval windows. The ultra-quiet interior can be configured with up to four living areas or three living areas and a dedicated crew compartment.
The G800’s high-speed performance, ultra-long range and fuel efficiency are the result of the combination of Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines with Gulfstream’s own aerodynamically designed wing and winglets.
“The Gulfstream team never stops pushing the boundaries of what’s possible, while always maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and customer commitment for which we are known,” added Burns. “We have been preparing for this milestone and are ready for a smooth entry into service of the G800, with the first deliveries to customers in the United States and Europe already underway.”
