Japan Airlines (JAL) confirms the addition of 17 Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet
On Wednesday (19), Japan Airlines (JAL) confirmed, through an official statement, the addition of 17 Boeing 737-8 aircraft to its fleet. This new order complements a previous order made in March 2023, for 21 Boeing 737-8s, with the aim of replacing the Boeing 737-800s currently used on domestic routes.
The fleet renewal will also include the introduction of 11 Airbus A321neos, which will replace the Boeing 767s on routes mainly to and from Haneda. JAL explained that this update is in line with its strategy of meeting growing demand and improving profitability.
For international routes, the airline will include 10 Boeing 787-9 and 20 Airbus A350-900. According to the company's schedule, the 38 Boeing 737-8s for domestic flights will begin to be delivered in fiscal year 2026. The 11 Airbus A321neos and 10 Boeing 787-9s are scheduled to arrive in fiscal year 2028.
The Airbus A350-900s will begin to be introduced in fiscal year 2027, with 20 units destined for international flights and three for domestic flights. In addition, JAL will incorporate five Airbus A350-1000s exclusively for international routes, although the exact delivery date has not yet been defined.
The airline estimates that, by fiscal year 2030, its international operations will have grown approximately 1.5 times compared to fiscal year 2023. This expansion will be driven by the increase in frequencies to North America and Asia, markets considered strategic and with continuous growth.
JAL also plans to increase capacity by offering larger aircraft and increasing flight frequencies, which will contribute to improving service quality and providing greater convenience for passengers.
The Japanese company stressed that the early introduction of modern aircraft is not only aimed at improving customer experience, but also at reducing CO₂ emissions by adopting more fuel-efficient aircraft, thus promoting a more sustainable operation in the future.
