Gulfstream - G800 first flight 6-28-22

Gulfstream G800 expected to receive certification by June

During the presentation of its 2024 financial results last week, Gulfstream maintained its forecast for certification of the new G800 business jet in the first half of this year.

The information was given by Phebe Novakovic, president and CEO of General Dynamics, the manufacturer's parent company. "We expect certification of the G800 sometime in the first half of the year." The schedule follows the expectation that the model will receive approval about a year after the G700 was certified in March.

The G800 has a range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,815 km) and a maximum speed of Mach 0.925. The aircraft shares components with the G700, including the wing, tail, fuselage cross-section, flight deck and Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines. “We have solved the most significant issues we faced on the 700 (...), so we believe that the learnings we gained from the 700 will be very advantageous for the 800,” said Novakovic.

The executive added that the G800 delivery volume will be lower than initially planned for the G700 model. Deliveries, combined with those of the predecessor G650, should remain close to this year’s projections, with a variation of a few units. In late 2024, Gulfstream began testing the aircraft dedicated to evaluating the interior of the cabin. At the time, Mark Burns, CEO of Gulfstream, said that the program “is progressing very well.”

The progress of the G400...The manufacturer is also advancing in the development of the G400 model, which made its first flight in August. The model has a range of 4,200 nautical miles (7,778 km) and a cruising speed of Mach 0.85. The aircraft uses the wing and winglet configuration of the G500 and G600, as well as the Symmetry cockpit.

The company does not expect deliveries of the G400 for this year, nor has it confirmed a deadline for certification.
