Bloomberg: US to triple production capacity of 30,000-pound “bunker buster” bombs

The McAlester Army Ammunition Plant is being expanded to increase production capacity for the GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP).

At the moment, there is only capacity for 2 pumps per month. The new assembly area will be opened in the next 5 months and will allow the production of at least 6 and possibly 8 MOPs per month. It will also support the production of 2,000- and 5,000-pound bombs.

MOPs are integrated only into the U.S. Air Force's B-2 Spirit stealth bombers and are essential to contingency plans to attack Iran or North Korea's weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile facilities.
